Has digital technology killed Music Magazines?

In my opinion digital technology has killed music magazine, I believe this because facts has shown that print figures as decrease with the last year. The magazine company N.M.E(New Musical Express) is down to less than 15,000 copies sold a week with q magazines seeing a 21.8% year on year decline and now averages 46,096 copies per issue. This fact proves that paper magazines has significantly dropped since people are no longer buying them and people are using online magazines instead. Web 2.0 has made a big impact on the music magazine industry as it has allowed people to access information about artist rather than to wait on a magazine to come out.

Another reason with I agree the statement is because to make magazines a lot of trees are having to be cut down which is causing carbon dioxide which is release into the air. Whereas having a kindle or tablet or computer it’s easier because all you have to do is subscribe to get notice or just download and this will being  save trees and cheaper too.
There are many different types of music magazine, the main types of music magazine in the industry are; Indie music, KERRANG and Top of the Pops. All three magazines have an online website which offers interactive pop ups, actual videos of interviews etc., this is more appeals to people because it’s free and easy to access. It is also more up to date unlike a magazine which tries to cover all news for two season.

Normally people would wait for a magazine to come to read up on an artist life or for gossip, but now in the 21st century social media has taken up that role. Nowadays artist used twitter and Instagram to update their fans about the latest news in their life, fans would follow these to keep trendy and updated.

I in believe in the future the technology will be a big part in the music industry and paper back magazines will no longer be used, because technology will be taking over and people will be trying to find new ways to make life’s of subscriber and readers easier.

This is my induction work and this is basically explaining my views on how technology has advanced. It explains how technology has advanced so much  that we no longer paperback magazines.

  1. You put forward a convincing argument Annie and draw on some relevant research, although you cite *indie music* as a magazine- it is not. You need to carefully proof read for any mistakes. Vanessa
